Greek eyes by MT

It started as gratitude stones – those you hold in your hand, reminding you to feel thankful for your goods. I started collecting them from the beach of Damouchari in Pelion and then from other shores. I just wanted to paint them and gift them to friends. Then I studied the famous American painter Margaret Keane’s work – the faces with those incredible big eyes.

So, I decided to make my Greek eyes. These are authentic sea stones from the Greek seas, hand-painted with acrylic colors. There is an eye upon them because, in Greece, a gem like this is called “mati” (eye). It keeps negative energy away and brings good luck.

Each stone is painted only on one side to see its original texture and color.

Each one of them is unique.

Like each one of us, after all.
